While home on break, collegiate lacrosse player Josh Funk walked into a physical therapy clinic for a shoulder injury and was surprised by how different it felt from the top-tier D1 training facility he was used to at Ohio State. That experience sparked a passion for making high-quality rehabilitation accessible to everyone—not just elite athletes. Determined to bridge the gap, Funk founded Rehab2Perform (R2P) in 2014, and the model has thrived ever since. This past October, R2P expanded its reach by opening a new location in Reston.
The Reston office, located in the office park next to Plaza America on Sunset Hills Road, is different from standard physical therapy practices in several ways–one of which is its specialized services for women at all stages of pregnancy. Co On-Site Director and certified pelvic floor specialist Manolya Martin leads this fitness-forward approach, which helps women strengthen their cores and glutes before pregnancy, improve stability to reduce risks during pregnancy, and recover from C-sections or vaginal births to feel comfortable in their post-baby bodies. This is a relatively new approach to women’s health that some OBGYNs and gynecologists recommend to their patients, but no one needs a referral to come into R2P, which accepts all major insurance plans.

Martin was with R2P for nearly three years at other sites before moving to the Reston office. She encourages all women to consider pelvic floor therapy, emphasizing that postpartum recovery has no expiration date. “I empower women by increasing bone mineral density (BMD), which is how strong our bones are, increasing muscle mass to do whatever they want,” she said. “It gives them control back over their lives; just because you’re a mom doesn't mean you can’t jump anymore or have to cross your legs when you sneeze.”
She stressed that while issues like pelvic floor weakness are common, they are not normal. In addition to postpartum recovery, pelvic floor therapy can also help manage symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause.
R2P offers other physical therapy with the same fitness-forward approach. “Most outpatient physical therapy plans end at pain-free. We don’t stop at pain-free,” Martin explained. The goal is to help patients regain their previous level of performance while reducing the risk of reinjury–an approach that inspired the name “Rehab 2 Perform.” They will work with “anyone with a body who is willing to move it.”
R2P Reston’s most recent hire came from the Tampa Bay Rays, giving them three therapists, and more openings on their calendar. Patients can expect a 60-minute one-on-one initial consultation, followed by 30- to 45-minute one-on-one care going forward. Scheduling an appointment online–https://rehab2perform.com/reston-va–is easiest, but appointments also can be made by calling their office–(301) 900-5743. Located at 11507 Sunset Hills Road, R2P’s hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
